Gunfire tore through Minneapolis, leaving two people dead and several others wounded — among them three police officers — after a suspect opened fire, police said.
The suspected shooter also died, according to Garrett Parten, a police spokesperson who briefed reporters at a press conference. He said authorities did not yet know how the suspect died.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene, Mr Parten said. Four other people were transported to hospital, where a second victim later died.
Three police officers were also taken to hospital, including two who were shot. A hospital spokesperson told AFP both of those officers were expected to survive and were in “stable condition.”
One officer suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, while another was in surgery. Police did not specify what injury the third officer sustained.
Officials did not discuss a motive during the press conference.
Governor Tim Walz urged people to “pray for Minnesota,” and FBI Director Kash Patel said federal agents were responding to the incident.
City officials are expected to hold a press conference later.
