Biden Called to Ban the Gun Used to Shoot Trump
Jul 17 (Jowhar.com) – US President Joe Biden renewed his call for Congress to ban assault rifles, including the type used in the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Trump’s right ear suffered a minor injury after being hit by gunfire from a nearby rooftop. while campaigning in the state of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
“The AR-15 used to shoot Donald Trump is the weapon that killed many people, including children. It’s time to ban it,” Mr Biden said at the Las Vegas convention as he re-launched the election campaign.
Biden was instrumental in passing the assault weapons ban in 1994, which passed in 2004.
In 2022, during his first term as president, Mr Biden signed the most important gun safety legislation in more than two decades, which included background checks for gun buyers and other protections.
Authorities have yet to confirm the motive of the gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, who managed to shoot Trump after climbing to the roof of a building 130m (426ft) away from where the former US President was speaking.
Eyewitnesses at the scene reported seeing Crooks with a high-powered rifle, with some speculating that he may have been motivated by political beliefs or a personal vendetta. The Secret Service has launched a full investigation into the incident, working closely with local law enforcement to determine how Crooks was able to breach security and carry out the assassination attempt.
President Biden condemned the attack in a televised address, calling it a tragic reminder of the need for stricter gun control measures. He vowed to work with Congress to pass even more comprehensive legislation to prevent future acts of violence. Meanwhile, Trump supporters have taken to social media to express their outrage and disbelief at the shocking turn of events.
As the nation mourns the senseless act of violence, questions remain about how such a breach of security could have occurred. The incident has sparked a debate about the balance between protecting public figures and preserving the right to bear arms. One thing is certain – the country will never be the same after this tragic event.
