Ethiopia declared three days of mourning

Jul 27 (Jowhar.com) – The Ethiopian government announced on Friday three days of national mourning, after it was confirmed that 257 people died in two landslides that occurred on Sunday and Monday in southern Ethiopia.

A statement issued by the Ethiopian parliament said that mourning for the victims will begin today, Saturday. The Ethiopian Disaster Management Committee also said that rescue operations and humanitarian aid are going well.

The news agency AFP told you that the houses of the people who died in the disaster were filled with mourners, to participate or pray for the hundreds of people whose bodies were brought out from under the mud.

The United Nations Organization for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, abbreviated to OCHA, citing local officials, said that storms caused by heavy rain caused a landslide in the small village of Kencho Shacha Gozdi. She warned that the death toll could rise.

It is the largest number of landslide deaths in Ethiopia, while the rescue operations are still ongoing.
