Cuba Supports South Africa’s Legal Initiative at the ICJ Regarding Israeli Activities in Gaza

Cuba has declared its intention to join South Africa in its lawsuit against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) concerning the situation in the Gaza Strip. The Cuban Foreign Ministry issued a declaration on Friday endorsing their participation.

This initiative is primarily focused on “cessation of the horrific acts perpetrated against the Palestinian population due to Israel’s excessive and non-selective force,” according to the statement.

South Africa commenced its legal pursuit at the ICJ against Israel on December 29, 2023, accusing it of breaching the 1948 Genocide Convention with respect to the Palestinian inhabitants of Gaza.

Encouraged by South Africa’s example, nations including Chile and Spain have also decided to participate in the action against Israel.
