FIFA Denies Reports on Incorrect Use of Blue Cards in Africa

Media websites around the world have reported the potential introduction of a Blue Card, in addition to the yellow and red cards, specifically for cynical fouls resulting in a ten-minute expulsion.

FIFA clarified that no such initiative has been taken and they are not considering it.

“FIFA wishes to clarify that reports of the so-called ‘blue card’ at elite levels of football are incorrect and premature.

Any trials, if implemented, should be limited to responsible testing at lower levels. FIFA intends to reiterate this position during the discussion of this agenda item at the IFAB AGM on 2 March,” says a statement released by FIFA on Thursday.

Over the years, FIFA has introduced various developments in the game, including the recent introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) to ensure transparent refereeing in football.
