Journal of Africa – Congolese President Denis Sassou-Nguesso on a State Visit to Rwanda

The Congolese President, Denis Sassou-Nguesso, is on a state visit to Rwanda. He met with his counterpart, Paul Kagame, to discuss agricultural cooperation between the two countries. Last year, a controversial agreement was signed that allocated nearly 12,000 hectares of agricultural land in the Republic of Congo to Rwandan companies. NGOs have denounced this as an “unconstitutional” transfer of territory.

In Khartoum, many children with cancer can no longer receive treatment due to the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitaries for over three months. According to UNICEF, at least 330 children have been killed since the start of the conflict. With 70% of hospitals in conflict areas destroyed, about ten children with cancer have been evacuated two hours away from the capital in an attempt to continue their treatment.
