Aug 24 (Jowhar) – Some of the ministries of the federal government of Somalia have started to prevent foreign and local companies from using the name of Somaliland.
The Civil Aviation Authority recently ordered Fly Dubai and Ethiopian Airlines not to use the Somaliland name that they previously used on their websites to display flight schedules.
These two companies accepted the request from the Somali government and stopped using the Somaliland name.
Also, in a statement issued today by the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia, some remittance companies and other unnamed companies are ordered not to use the name of Somaliland, and use only the name of Somalia.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry has specifically criticized Hawala Dahabshiil, Galaxy Tranfer, Jubba Express and PaySii and similar companies that mention Somaliland on their websites.
The Ministry has decided not later than September 1, 2024 to implement the order issued by the company and if it does not comply, it will be recognized as having violated the sovereignty and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia and will be subject to the laws of the country.
So far there is no word from the companies that were sent the letter of the order instructing them to stop using the name Somailand whether they will comply or not.
However, the Somaliland administration responded to this order and said that the company complying with the order issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Federal Government of Somalia is committing a crime against Somaliland.
Somaliland Information Minister Ali Hassan Mohamed ‘Ali Marehaan’ said that those who carry out the orders of the Somali government will be held accountable.
