Hamse appointed the Director General of the East African Community

Aug 04 (Jowhar.com) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hamse Abdi Barre, has appointed Mohamed Isaaq Ibrahim (Fatir) as the Director General of the East African Community.

Somalia was officially allowed to join the East African Community in November last year, and it is worth noting that President Hassan Sheikh was then in the city of Arusha in Tanzania, where Somalia’s accession to the organization was announced.

The member countries of EAC are Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and Somalia, which is the last member and thus became the 8th member of this regional organization.

This regional organization with its headquarters in the city of Aarusha in Tanzania was established in 2000, after an agreement was reached by five of the 8 countries that it currently consists of. South Sudan became a member of the EAC in September 2016, while the Democratic Republic of the Congo joined the organization in April 2022.
