Sep 05 (Jowhar) The President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke on the phone with the Vice President of the European Union and the head of political and security affairs, Josep Borrell, according to Villa Somalia.
A statement from the presidency said that the president “stressed the importance of protecting the unity, independence, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.”
“The President thanked the European Union for its continuous support for Somalia’s security and joint efforts to eradicate terrorism, and strengthen the maintenance of stability and security in the region.”
On the other hand, Josep Borrell, in a brief statement posted on X, said that he assured President Hassan Sheikh of the continued support of the European Union for the security transition in Somalia and related issues.
“We recognize the need to avoid regional tensions while fighting terrorism and protecting the unity, independence and territorial integrity of Somalia.”President Hassan Sheikh is currently in Beijing, the capital of China, where he is participating in the China-Africa Summit.
