Russia Claims to Have Shot Down a Ukrainian Drone over Belgorod

Russian authorities have reported that their air defense systems have destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle launched by Ukraine over the territory of the Belgorod region, which shares a border with Ukraine.

The day before, two Ukrainian missiles were shot down by Russian air defense over the Crimean Bridge, a critical civilian and military infrastructure that connects Russia to the annexed peninsula. Here is the news from August 13.

The Russian Ministry of Defense claims to have destroyed a Ukrainian drone over Belgorod. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that their air defense systems had destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle launched by Ukraine over the territory of the Belgorod region.

Ukrainian border guards remind Russia that Snake Island belongs to them again. Ukrainian border guards have placed a new sign on Snake Island, recalling the early hours of the Russian invasion when a resident of the strategic Black Sea island used a carefully chosen phrase to refuse to surrender to a warship.

“The next border sign will be installed in our Ukrainian country, Crimea, after its liberation by Russia,” said Serhiy Deineko, the head of the border service, in a video shared on Facebook, in front of a sign displaying his country’s colors: yellow and blue.

Snake Island has become synonymous with Ukrainian resistance from the early hours of the February war. When Russian officers on the Moskva, flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, communicated by radio with the Ukrainian guards stationed on the island and ordered them to surrender or die, one of them responded over the radio, “Russian warship, go f*** yourself. Go f*** yourself.”

German company Rheinmetall will deliver the “Luna New Generation” drone system to Ukraine by the end of the year, Bild am Sonntag reported on Sunday, as Ukraine desperately seeks to strengthen its arsenal (whether drones, ammunition, or tanks).

The “Drone Package” consists of a ground control station with several drones, a launch catapult, and military trucks, Bild said, adding that the drone system could be used as a reconnaissance system, provide an LTE network, provide cargo transport services, and intercept or jam communications.

12 am: Ukrainian army says it is making progress in the south. Ukrainian military officials said on Saturday that Kiev’s forces had made progress in the south of the country and had achieved a partial success near the key town of Robotyne.

“Direction Tavria,” wrote General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of Ukrainian forces in the south. “There are liberated territories. Defense forces are working there.”
