Single guilty verdict after Palestine Action trial in UK
Eight Palestine Action supporters are accused of helping to organise an attack on a factory of an Israel-linked weapons manufacturer

A two-month case at the Old Bailey involving alleged planning around a high-profile raid linked to Palestine Action has concluded with just one conviction across 15 charges.

Eight supporters of the campaign group stood trial accused of helping to organise an attack on the Filton, near Bristol, premises of Elbit Systems, an Israel-linked weapons manufacturer.

Prosecutors did not allege that any of the defendants took part in the raid itself on 6 August 2024. Instead, the court heard they were said to have played roles in preparing for it, including drawing up an equipment list, carrying out reconnaissance, and buying tools and weapons later used by others.

On Wednesday, Judge Patrick Field discharged the jury a day after it returned a majority verdict of nine to one convicting one defendant of criminal damage.

After 37 hours of deliberations, jurors said they could not agree on any further verdicts on the remaining 14 counts.

The convicted defendant cannot be identified for legal reasons.

The proceedings began on 22 June, and Judge Field first sent the jury out to consider its decision on 6 August.

Prosecutors will now weigh whether to pursue a retrial. The case is due to return to court for a mention hearing on 14 September.

The defendants are: William Plastow, 35, of Manchester; Teuta Hoxha, 30, of Southwark, south-east London; Hannah Davidson, 53, and Madeleine Norman, 31, both from Edinburgh; Ian Sanders, 47, of Leamington Spa, Warwickshire; Aleksandra Herbich, 42, of Brent, north-west London; Sean Middlebrough, 34, of Liverpool; and Julija Brigadirova, 34, from Chorlton, Manchester.

All eight face allegations of criminal damage, while all but Mr Plastow are also charged with violent disorder.

Each defendant denies any wrongdoing.
