What has happened in the fighting tonight in Mogadishu

Mogadishu (Jowhar.com) reports from the Somali capital Mogadishu say that heavy fighting has broken out in the capital Mogadishu.

The fighting is between forces under the command of the president’s term has expired Farmaajo and forces opposed to Farmaajo extension.

Reports say that the fighting between government forces and forces opposed fighters is still going on at the residence of candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur near Abdi Qasim’s presidential palace, and gunfire can still be heard.

Meanwhile, pro-opposition forces attacked the Sayidka intersection guarding the Somali presidential palace. There was also fighting at the Dabka intersection on Makkah Almukaramah Road.

The fighting has affected the presidential palace with a number of mortar shells hitting the Somali presidential palace although no casualties have been reported.

Federal Security Minister Hassan Xundubey denied that government forces had attacked the residence of former President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

But he acknowledged that government forces had fought opposition forces and said that misguided militias who had entered the town had pushed them back.

There are no exact figures on the casualties of today’s fighting in the capital but people are having difficulty getting to the health facilities for the victims of the fighting, as roads are closed.

Thousands of families in Mogadishu are packing their belongings tonight as they prepare to flee the fighting, which is feared to intensify as no one is inside.
