Accuser of Jay-Z and Sean Combs Withdraws Sexual Assault Lawsuit
A woman who accused hip-hop artists Sean “Diddy” Combs and Jay-Z of sexually assaulting her when she was 13 has withdrawn her civil lawsuit as of yesterday, according to court records.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, faced accusations in December regarding sexual assault of the girl alongside Mr. Combs during a party after the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2000.
The filing with the US District Court for the Southern District of New York states that the accuser “hereby gives notice that the above-captioned action is voluntarily dismissed, with prejudice,” which means the case cannot be refiled.
It remains unclear whether the stars reached a settlement with the woman, whose identity has not been disclosed.
“This civil suit was baseless and was never going to succeed. The fabricated story they concocted was laughable, if not for the gravity of the allegations,” he remarked in a statement.
“I would not wish this experience on anyone. The trauma that my wife, my children, loved ones, and I have endured can never be minimized,” he continued.
The complaint alleged that Mr. Combs and Mr. Carter—who is married to pop sensation Beyonce—assaulted the plaintiff.
Mr. Combs, who is also 55, faces separate charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. Federal prosecutors claim that he sexually abused women and forced them into drug-fueled parties through means of threats and violence.
He has denied all charges against him, and his criminal trial is currently set to commence on May 5.
