Dual US-Irish Citizen Charged with Attempting to Join Hezbollah

A former US Army veteran, accused of traveling to Lebanon and Syria in an attempt to join Hezbollah, has been indicted for allegedly supporting a “terrorist” organization, according to the US Justice Department.

Jack Danaher Molloy, 24, who holds dual citizenship in the US and Ireland, was apprehended in Chicago last month and transported to Pennsylvania on Monday to face the charges, as stated by the department.

The indictment reveals that Mr. Molloy traveled to Lebanon in August with the intention of joining Hezbollah, a group recognized as a “terrorist” organization by the US government.

After his attempts were unsuccessful, he proceeded to Syria in a bid to affiliate with the organization there.

The US Justice Department noted that Mr. Molloy incited violence against Jewish individuals on social media and, in a WhatsApp conversation with a family member, expressed that his “master plan was to join Hezbollah”.

If found guilty of providing material support to a “terrorist” organization, Mr. Molloy could face a penalty of up to 20 years in prison.
