“It’s also my home, the center of the government.”
When asked if he was optimistic about Ireland concluding its interstate case against the UK regarding the Northern Ireland Legacy Act, Mr. Starmer mentioned that there have been some “really constructive discussions”.
He expressed hope that the “deepening, increasingly better relationship” will aid in various areas, “especially concerning legacy issues”.
Notable attendees at the event included Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee, athletes Daniel and Nathan Wiffen, and television host Dermot O’Leary, who shared his thoughts on what Irish identity signifies to him.
He remarked: “Growing up as Irish here, or any second-generation identity, is quite different.”
“I always say that I’m Irish but not from Ireland, which lends itself to a unique identity upbringing, yet it has never been an issue or a problem for me.”
“Honestly, I’ve always felt nothing but Irish. Not in a flag-waving way, mind you.”
“I know my history, I cherish my family, I love the country, yet I also enjoy living here, and I don’t see why both can’t coexist quite harmoniously.”
