McEntee Visits Abu Dhabi to Finalize Bilateral Agreements with UAE
The Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, is currently in Abu Dhabi to finalize bilateral treaties with the United Arab Emirates regarding extradition and mutual legal assistance.
The Minister is confident that these two agreements, which received Government approval last Friday, will further enhance cooperation between Ireland and the UAE in combating crime and facilitating extradition processes.
Minister McEntee initiated discussions with the UAE last year, engaging in extensive talks with her counterpart, the Emirati Minister of Justice, His Excellency Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi.
The Government has stated that it is taking all necessary actions to dismantle organized crime and believes that these bilateral treaties will play a crucial role in addressing organized crime and transnational drug trafficking syndicates.
“This will apply to any criminal present in the UAE,” she remarked.
“Clearly, the Kinahan family and their organization have been operating there for several years. Without going into specifics, this will enable An Garda Síochána, following a request from the DPP for charges to be filed, to approach the courts to seek a warrant and subsequently present that to the UAE authorities in the hope of securing extraditions.”
