One Fatality and 15 Injuries in Train Collision in Wales

A man has lost his life following a collision involving two trains in Wales, according to the British Transport Police.

Additionally, 15 individuals have been hospitalized due to the collision near Llanbrynmair in Powys; however, police have indicated that their injuries are not considered life-threatening or life-altering.

All passengers have been safely evacuated from both trains.

BTP Superintendent Andrew Morgan stated: “We can regrettably confirm that a man has died as a result of this evening’s incident.”

The low-speed collision between the two trains occurred just before 7pm yesterday, as reported by police.

The police further mentioned that paramedics, fire and rescue teams, as well as Dyfed Powys Police, responded to the scene, and the “incident is ongoing.”

Network Rail and Transport for Wales stated that the incident involved the Transport for Wales 6:31 pm service traveling from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and the 7:09 pm service from Machynlleth to Shrewsbury.

In a joint statement, Network Rail and Transport for Wales announced that the line is closed while specialized teams carry out their investigations.

Wales’ First Minister Eluned Morgan expressed: “My thoughts are with everyone affected by the rail incident in Powys earlier this evening.”

“I would like to extend my gratitude to the emergency services for their prompt response and have requested to be updated on any developments throughout the night.”
