Renowned Painter Jack Vettriano Passes Away in France
Scottish artist Jack Vettriano has been discovered deceased in his apartment in Nice, located in the south of France, according to his publicist.
Born Jack Hoggan on November 17, 1951, in Methil, Fife, Mr. Vettriano was found on Saturday.
It is believed that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 73-year-old’s passing.
Mr. Vettriano left school at 15 to pursue a career as a mining engineer but turned to painting after receiving a box of watercolours from a girlfriend for his 21st birthday.
Jack Vettriano’s works garnered international acclaim
His significant breakthrough occurred in 1998 when he presented two paintings at the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual exhibition, both of which sold on the first day, motivating him to become a full-time artist.
His artwork received international recognition, resulting in exhibitions in various cities, including Edinburgh, London, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, and New York.
The Singing Butler is among Jack Vettriano’s most famous works
His 1992 painting, The Singing Butler, is one of his most renowned pieces, depicting an elegant couple dancing on a stormy beach with their butler and maid, and it became a best-selling image in Britain.
Notable individuals who have acquired Vettriano’s paintings include Jack Nicholson, Alex Ferguson, Tim Rice, and Robbie Coltrane.
