Sydney’s New Year’s Fireworks at Risk of Cancellation

Sydney’s New Year’s Eve fireworks, recognized as one of the most magnificent celebrations for welcoming the new year, may be canceled due to industrial actions taken by train workers, according to police reports.

New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb stated that as many as 250,000 individuals are anticipated to gather in Sydney for the event, and arrangements for their return home are essential.

“If trains are unavailable and individuals can’t leave the city, I have significant concerns regarding the public safety risks that may arise,” she informed the media.

“Therefore, I have not dismissed the possibility of recommending to the government that we cancel the fireworks,” she continued.

Toby Warnes, secretary of the state rail, tram and bus union, mentioned that there are no intentions to disrupt public plans, accusing the state government of “instilling fear within the people of New South Wales as part of a specific industrial agenda.”
