Trump Appoints ‘Champion Golfer’ Walsh as Ireland’s Ambassador
Donald Trump, the president-elect of the United States, has chosen Edward Walsh, the leader of a national construction and real estate firm, as his nominee for ambassador to Ireland.
Ed Walsh is the founder and president of a construction and project management company located in New Jersey.
Early responses indicate that Mr. Walsh is relatively unknown in political circles, even within New Jersey.
In a post on Truth Social announcing the nomination, Mr. Trump referred to him as a significant philanthropist in his community and noted that he had previously held the position of Chairman of the New Jersey Schools Development Authority Board.
As a registered engineer, Mr. Walsh’s firm focuses on project management, construction, and lighting solutions.
The Republican also labeled Mr. Walsh as a “champion golfer,” calling it a “very good asset” for someone in the ambassadorial role for Ireland.
Current US Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin, is set to conclude her term on January 20, when President Joe Biden will transition power to the president-elect.
Ms. Cronin was appointed by Mr. Biden in June 2021 and has previously held positions as a Representative and Majority Leader in the Massachusetts state legislature.
