UK Police Charge Russell Brand with Rape
Comedian and actor Russell Brand has been charged with rape and multiple counts of assault concerning several allegations made between 1999 and 2005, according to the UK’s Metropolitan Police.
At 50 years old, Mr. Brand, once one of Britain’s most prominent comedians and broadcasters, has recently redefined his career as an internet social commentator.
Authorities stated that Mr. Brand, who resides in Oxfordshire, southern England, faces charges including one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault, linked to four different women.
“The investigation by the Met is ongoing, and detectives urge anyone impacted by this situation or with any relevant information to come forward and reach out to the police,” the statement mentioned.
“We have determined that there are sufficient grounds to charge Russell Brand with offenses including rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault.”
Mr. Brand has previously insisted that he has never been involved in non-consensual sex.
He is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 2 May.
