White House Announces JD Vance’s Wife Will Visit Greenland
Usha Vance, spouse of US Vice President JD Vance, is set to visit Greenland this week, as announced by the White House. She will travel to the autonomous Danish territory that President Donald Trump has expressed interest in purchasing.
Ms. Vance, accompanied by her son and a US delegation, will be in Greenland from Thursday to Saturday to explore historical sites, delve into Greenlandic heritage, and attend the Avannaata Qimussersu, the national dogsled race of Greenland, according to a statement from the White House.
“Ms. Vance and the delegation are thrilled to witness this significant race and to celebrate the culture and unity of Greenland,” the White House stated.
Since resuming power in January, Mr. Trump has reiterated his desire for the United States to acquire Greenland, even suggesting that he may consider using force to achieve this goal.
When questioned by White House reporters earlier this month about potentially taking control of the island, Mr. Trump remarked: “I think it will happen.”
Mr. Trump has maintained that US ownership of Greenland is vital for national security.
Polls indicate that the majority of Greenlanders favor independence from Denmark, but do not support annexation by the United States.
During his first term from 2017 to 2021, Trump proposed the idea of purchasing Greenland from Denmark, but officials in both countries indicated that it was not for sale.
