Jury selection under way in Russell Brand trial
Russell Brand denies the charges against him

Russell Brand arrived at a central London courtroom early Tuesday morning as a jury began to be chosen for his trial on allegations of rape and sexual assault.

The British comedian, 51, is accused of groping women and forcing them into sexual acts, with claims spanning a decade from 1999 to 2009.

Mr Brand denies all the allegations: three charges of rape, three counts of sexual assaults, and one allegation of indecent assault. The accusations have been made by six women.

Juror selection got under way at Southwark Crown Court and is expected to continue tomorrow, before prosecutors open their case against Mr Brand on Wednesday morning.

Potential jurors were also told to anticipate a trial lasting about six weeks.

Shortly before proceedings, at around 8.45am, Mr Brand arrived outside Southwark Crown Court in central London accompanied by his wife.

He did not respond to reporters as he entered the courthouse.

The case is being overseen by High Court judge Mr Justice Joel Bennathan, with the hearing due to begin at 9.30am.
