A deadly overnight freight-train collision on a railway bridge in Germany sent rail cars tumbling onto a city street, prompting emergency crews to seal off the area as cleanup began.
Officials said two freight trains struck each other on the bridge, and the impact knocked two wagons off the span and down to the roadway below.
One person was killed.
The German news agency dpa said the crash occurred in the city of Munich but did not identify the victim. The cause of the collision was not immediately known.
dpa reported that the goods wagons dropped about 16 feet from the bridge.
Munich police said the street beneath the bridge has been closed and urged drivers to steer clear of the area while recovery and clearing operations continued.
According to dpa, the derailed goods wagons were not carrying any cargo and authorities said there was no threat to public safety.
No other injuries were reported.
