July 13-(Jowhar)-US President Donald Trump announced that the US is reimposing sanctions on Iranian ships in the Gulf and will ensure that the Strait of Hormuz remains open.
Donald Trump said that the US wants to take control of the Strait of Hormuz, and said that the US will be paid a lot of money to protect the strategic waterway.
The US will be called the “GUARDIAN OF THE strait of Hormuz”, Trump wrote on his social media account Truth Social.
“Therefore, it is a matter of FAIRNESS, compensation will be paid, based on 20% of all cargo on board the ships as it is necessary to protect them, and work will begin immediately,” he added.
Iran’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said the United States has no role in determining the future of the key shipping lanes, and said in a statement on Monday that it would not be allowed to interfere in the management of the lanes.
Oil prices rose more than 4% after Trump said he would reimpose a US naval embargo on Iran.
Washington began blocking shipping to and from Iranian ports in April and ended it in June after an interim deal between the United States and Iran.
