A Russian drone slammed into a high-rise in central Kyiv on Tuesday morning, killing a child, as Ukrainian officials also reported another death in the southern Odesa region.
Police said a 14-year-old boy died and at least seven other people were injured when a Russian drone struck a 16-storey residential building in Kyiv’s central Pechersk district.
A Reuters journalist reported hearing an explosion near the city centre.
The attack comes amid weeks of near constant barrages on Kyiv and surrounding areas, as Russia has increasingly used faster, high-flying drones that Ukrainian forces find harder to intercept.
Russia denies deliberately targeting civilians in the war, triggered by its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Emergency services said one person was injured in the overnight attack on the capital. They said the strikes also sparked fires in non-residential buildings in two city districts.
The Russian defence ministry said its forces carried out overnight drone strikes on Ukrainian defence industry facilities, logistics centres and vessels used by Ukraine’s armed forces.
Separately, Odesa region governor Oleh Kiper said one person was killed and another one injured in what he described as a series of “massive” Russian strikes that hit a residential area and logistics premises belonging to a postal operator.
