A far-right activist known to supporters as Danny Tommo is due in court in England after being accused of slashing a boat in the English Channel while an emergency responder was on board.
Daniel Thomas, 37, of no fixed address, has been charged with criminal damage, Hampshire police said.
He was also charged last night with failing to disclose the Pin to his phone to officers, an offence under Section 53 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.
Police said Thomas has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court today.
In a statement, the force said: “The charges follow an allegation made to police that damage had been caused to a boat in the Channel whilst an emergency responder was on board.”
Chris Derrick, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said the decision to bring the case was taken after a Hampshire Constabulary investigation into an incident on Tuesday 22 September.
He added: “Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring the case to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue criminal proceedings.
“We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendant are active and he has the right to a fair trial.”
The court appearance follows a night of heightened tension in Basingstoke, where several hundred people — most dressed in black — assembled outside a police investigation centre believing Thomas was being held inside.
As the gathering continued for several hours, dozens of police officers were seen monitoring the crowd outside the building.
