A late-night Israeli strike in northern Gaza killed a family of four — including two children — as residents reported renewed bombardment and gunfire across the enclave, Palestinian hospital and security sources said.
“The bodies of four members of the Ahmad family were recovered in pieces after an Israeli strike hit a house in the Beit Lahia Project area in the northern Gaza Strip,” an official at Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said, identifying the children as aged 12 and eight.
A Palestinian security source in Gaza said Israeli warplanes struck after midnight in Beit Lahia and, in a separate attack, in the centre of the Jabalia refugee camp. The source also reported Israeli forces firing on tents sheltering displaced people and on ambulances.
“Israel continues its violations in the Gaza Strip,” the security source said.
The Israeli military said it was checking the reports.
Israel agreed in October last year to a ceasefire brokered by the United States, but has since pushed deeper into Gaza.
Since the ceasefire was announced, Israeli attacks have killed more than 1,300 people, according to the Gaza health ministry — figures the United Nations considers generally reliable.
Over the same period, the Israeli army has reported five deaths in its ranks, along with the death of one civilian contractor.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised the strikes will continue, saying they are aimed at Hamas, which led the 7 October 2023 attack against Israel.
Netanyahu has said Israel should not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas relinquishes all of its weapons.
